NEW YORK "Bizarro" cartoonist Dan Piraro will receive the "Ongoing Commitment Award" from The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) on March 18.

That's the day the HSUS will present its 20th annual Genesis Awards to various media recipients for raising awareness of animal-protection issues. The Beverly Hills event will be taped and edited for a May 6 TV special on Animal Planet.

Piraro -- whose comic is distributed by King Features Syndicate -- regularly speaks to students, community groups, and others as an animal-rights activist.
