Goat-Bashing Case in Williams Township, New Jersey Making Progress

I’m putting this out again in the hope that there might be someone who can help find these scum. Even though it would only be misdemeanor charges – what a joke.

WILLIAMS TWP. | State police hope to wrap up their investigation into a goat attack by the end of the coming week, Sgt. Joseph Wilson said Friday.

To date, police have interviewed five suspects, including four teenage boys from the area and one man, he said. Police plan three more interviews this coming week, Wilson said.

During the night of Tuesday, April 11, suspects broke into a pasture on Kressman Road, killed two baby goats and broke the legs of two newborn goats, said animal owners Maggie Alexander and Matt Redmond. One of the injured goats died earlier this week.

Details about the overnight battering remain murky, but clues suggest the culprits played baseball using the goats, Alexander has said. A rake snapped in half, three softballs and two steel fence posts moved from their original location lingered in the pen after the attack.

Cruelty to animals is a second-degree misdemeanor, state Trooper Robert Glad said earlier. Punishments include a fine and up to two years in jail, he said. For criminal trespassing, a summary offense, the attackers could face a fine, he said.

Residents have offered as much as $1,000 for tips leading to the prosecution of the offenders.

Police say people with information about the goat-bashing can contact the Belfast barracks at 610- 759-6106 or 866- 279-5679.
