Winners of Sexiest Vegetarians of 2008 Released: New Additions and Old Favorites

Why this event is so important is that it gives legitimacy to animal rights and vegetarianism. I think what really sticks out is the quote by Anthony Kiedis, stated in the article below - "I saw some documentary footage of what happens in the factory farming of cows ... It sealed the deal," he says. Also mentioned on the PETA site from – “Kiedis recently went vegan after learning about the worldwide depletion of fish in the oceans and after a doctor recommended a healthy vegan diet for his son.”

So what we have here then is exposure to the truth of such choices and the related benefits from people who can gain serious media exposure.

Pop superstar Leona Lewis and Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis were named the Sexiest Vegetarians of 2008 by tens of thousands of votes on PETA.org.

The unlikely duo beat out better known vegetarians including Kristen Bell, Emily Deschanel, Milo Ventimiglia, Casey Affleck, Abbie Cornish, Hayden Panettiere, and Jason Schwartzman for the honor.

"I am totally against animal cruelty," Lewis says. "I am vegetarian so I don't have clothes, shoes, or bags made from leather or suede or any animal products ... I'm on a mission."

Kiedis, for his part, is a vegan. "I saw some documentary footage of what happens in the factory farming of cows ... It sealed the deal," he says.

Actor Tobey Maguire Continues on the Cruelty Free Path: Removes Leather from his Wardrobe

Tobey Maguire has imposed a leather ban on himself.

The 'Spider-Man' star, who has been a vegetarian for fourteen years, is determined to become more animal friendly, starting with all leather goods.

Tobey recently ordered a non-leather interior for his new car, and has even started wearing shoes "made from canvas and stuff like that".

The 31-year-old actor describes himself as "close to becoming a vegan", and as well as not eating meat he also abstains from eggs, cheese and milk.

He said in an interview with Parade magazine: "It's never really been that hard for me. I've never had any desire to eat meat. In fact, when I was a kid I would have a really difficult time eating meat at all. It had to be the perfect bite, with no fat or gristle or bone or anything like that.

"I don't judge people who eat meat, that's not for me to say, but the whole thing just sort of bums me out."

Tobey has also revealed he is considering moving out of Los Angeles for the sake of his five-month-old daughter Ruby - his child with fiancée Jennifer Meyer.

He said: "I'm at that stage where I have to start thinking about where I want Ruby to grow up and go to school. And even though Los Angeles is pretty laid back, maybe, it would be a good idea to try a different, less ambitious kind of atmosphere."

The hotly anticipated third 'Spider-Man' film hits cinema screens next month.

21st Annual Genesis Awards Bring Out and Reward Celebrities and Companies Who Support Animal Rights and Shed Light on Animal Abuse and Exploitation

An amazing and well-established event that rewards those who do good, but also sheds light on the issues of concern. It is put on annually by The Hollywood Office of The Humane Society of the United States. Animal-lovin' stars come out for Genesis Awards

There was definitely no fois gras, and certainly no fur-bedecked females, at the 21st annual Genesis Awards. The Saturday night fete at the Beverly Hilton was all about protecting animal rights, and the Hollywood office of the Humane Society of the United States presented awards to the media for "raising awareness of animal protection issues."

Emcee James Cromwell, guests Amy Smart, Steve Valentine, J.K. Simmons, Wendie Malick, Constance Marie, Sara Rue, Olivia Hussey, Bill Maher, Tippi Hedren and others chowed down on a tasteless vegan meal. Wolfgang Puck got a standing ovation for his recent decision to ban fatty goose liver in all of his restaurants.

The evening, which Cromwell said was "dedicated to fighting cruelty toward animals," underlined triumphant media moments that championed animal rights.

Sir Paul McCartney received the newly inaugurated Wyler Award for his longtime
defense of animals, while other winners included "Larry King Live," "CBS News" and the feature film "Happy Feet."

Burt Young showed up with Rusty, his canine co-star in "Rocky Balboa," who posed eagerly with every woman on the red carpet. And Catherine Oxenberg and Esai Morales ripped up the dance floor at the after party. Want more? The Genesis Awards will air on Animal Planet next month.

Many guests rode to and from the politically correct event in eco-limos that used hybrid engines and bio-fuel. No word as to how many directed their drivers to the closest In-N-Out Burger on the way home for a square meal before calling it a night.
