International Call-In Day for the Seals!
Tuesday, April 12 marks the first day of the second phase of Canada's
annual commercial seal slaughter. During the first phase of the hunt, in
the Gulf of St. Lawrence, sealers clubbed and skinned an estimated 90,000
seals. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) observers present
at the hunt documented countless acts of cruelty and violations of the
Marine Mammal regulations. Now, in the second phase of the slaughter
beginning tomorrow on the ice floes off the northwestern coast of
Newfoundland, an area known as the "Front," sealers will likely kill over
200,000 more seal pups for their pelts to sell to European and Asian
fashion markets. To read the powerful journal entries of the HSUS
observers and to view video footage of this year’s hunt, please visit
Join activists and organizations around the world in calling Canadian
embassies and consulates, and demanding an end to the seal hunt. Tell
them that you are supporting the boycott of Canadian seafood and tourism
until this slaughter is stopped for good.
